Fresh Coastal Interior Concept

Fresh Coastal Family Home - Private Residence, Mosman Park WA

When starting from scratch it can be very overwhelming, that’s why having an interior designer guide you through the project can make all the difference to your budget, your timeline and your enjoyment of the process. Designing a family home is a personal process and I love working collaboratively and closely with my clients to, not only achieve their ideal outcomes, but surpass their expectations.

Have you ever walked into a space and felt uplifted, but couldn’t pinpoint exactly why? Our biology is profoundly influenced by the environments we inhabit. We have an emotional response to our surroundings, whether we realise or not. A thoughtfully curated home isn't just about aesthetics; it's a strategic dance with psychology and biology. Colour palettes and lighting can stimulate neurotransmitters, affecting mood and energy levels. Cohesive design creates a visual rhythm that eases cognitive load, fostering a sense of calm and focus. A well-designed space can regulate stress hormones, elevate mood, and enhance overall cognitive performance. So, consider your home not merely as a collection of furniture and decor, but as a canvas for the symphony of positive biological responses that can elevate your life.

Kitchen Elevation - Private Residence, Nedlands WA

This stunning client initially envisioned a pristine white kitchen. However, as our discussions deepened, it became apparent that they were intrigued by the idea of a more unique and personalised space. Despite their initial hesitation to venture beyond what they knew, we collaborated closely. The journey through each selection was navigated with care, transforming solid white cabinet fronts into soft grey, v-groove panelled beauties. Chrome handles gracefully transitioned into curved brass counterparts. The result was a kitchen adorned with custom concrete benchtops and a stone tile splashback, evolving into a layered, captivating, and tactile environment that brought them immense joy. Ultimately, they expressed gratitude for stepping outside their comfort zone.

Each surface of this kitchen has an inviting texture. V Groove panelling, stone, concrete or brass.

A light well was added at planning stage after reviewing the original drawings. Engaging with Emma early, meant that this change could be made before it was too late.

Texture and shadows play a huge role in the formal lounge to set the mood. Located in the original part of the home, the room does not have much natural light, this is a major consideration in finishes and furniture selections. The choice was made to embrace the low light, and use the furniture to play with the shadows.

The informal dining space overlooks the garden and sits by the kitchen. It was a good opportunity to introduce some warmer timbers and continue the soft grey which sets the tone for the entire space.

Custom moulding in the formal dining space was added to ensure this large room with tall ceilings could offer a textural rest for the eyes.

The custom wall moulding is also a nod to other geometric design elements which have been continued throughout the home.

The formal lounge was designed to be a retreat, a cosy space seperate from the open plan living space. Decidedly encapsulating seating in velvet and boucle to beckon you and your martini.

Another room in the original part of the home, the library adjoins the formal lounge and formal dining, almost acting as a thoroughfare. We deliberately kept it moody and commissioned a custom library to encase the window and compliment the stunning original ceiling.

This custom shadow line skirting is a subtle yet effective detail, ensuring that every zone of the home has a personal touch.

Homes with true character are built on squiggling outside the lines and taking a few risks. This family often remind Emma that this is a favourite room in the home.

Original details in the front of the home were carefully preserved, such as this art deco ceiling rose. Teamed with a contemporary light fitting, it is the perfect example of the home’s narrative: Softly approaching the mix of traditional details and contemporary design to create a timeless interior.

Master Ensuite Elevation - Private Residence, Nedlands WA

In crafting this master ensuite, a rich tapestry of textures guided the design choices that resonate throughout the entire home. The limestone tile, adorning the floor, introduces a gentle yet captivating texture, setting the tone for the space. Complementing this, the light sage tiles on the walls not only reflect natural light from the window but also harmonise seamlessly with the solid, monolithic style of the custom concrete basins. Smoke glass wall lights contribute to the overall ambiance.

The fixtures, adorned with an Eco Brass "living finish," infuse the space with an abundance of character. This unique material is designed to develop a distinct patina over time, adding an ever-evolving element to the aesthetic. The thoughtful integration of these textured elements transforms the master ensuite into a sanctuary of style and individuality, enhancing the overall design narrative of the home.

The brass fixtures were selected to add tactility in an otherwise minimalistic design scheme.

Smoke glass and Edison bulbs add to the moody and calm environment in this master ensuite.

Material junctions are carefully considered. The tiles and timber vanity meet here happily.

Eco brass finishes elevate this simple design, adding texture and interest in a subtle way.

The ‘living finish’ of raw brass means that these fixtures will develop more and more character over time.

The cool blue tiles featuring in this master ensuite create a fresh and calming retreat.

During the design process, we stay agile. As budget constraints unrelated to the project arose for the client - the original scheme was revised. The result was no less stunning and the client was ecstatic at the finished look!
